As the situation in starving Ogaden deteriorates, extraordinary measures have to be taken, if we take into consideration that the UN and the US proved
Only 18% of the country´s population (namely the Amhara and Tigray Monophysitic Abyssinians) staff and therefore control the Abyssinian (´Ethiopian´) "diplomatic" body, using their position´s privileges to continue and complete the ongoing Genocide of Ogaden). Misinforming the international community through a network of unrepresentative embassies, the tribal pseudo-diplomats of Amhara and Tigray origin are common liars and monstrous accomplices of Africa´s most recent Genocide. The world community cannot afford to allow them perpetrate against the Ogadenis what Hitler´s Nazi Germany carried out against the European Jewry.
It is therefore a matter of the utmost urgency for the UN, the US and the European aid agencies, as well as the world´s leading Humanitarian agencies and NGOs, to contact the political leadership of the Ogadeni Nation, the Ogaden National Liberation Front, and cooperate with them in the creation of an International Humanitarian Corridor in Ogaden. In case the criminal racist state of ´Ethiopia´ does not immediately accept this measure, which is the only to prevent a humanitarian disaster of unprecedented scale, the way will be open for an immediate UN Security Council resolution and deployment of UN peacekeeping troops throughout Ogaden. I republish here the recent ONLF press release which calls for an International Humanitarian Corridor in Ogaden, and an insightful feature on the US aid which is under preparation, published in the portal Afrik.
The Americans have got a great and brilliant tradition in sending humanitarian aid; on the other hand, they are proverbial in terms of inefficiency when it comes to conflicts they never had the slightest idea about, Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia being some of the examples. In this case, if American aid reaches the racist Amhara and Tigray death squads of Meles Zenawi, the cannibal friend of Jendayi Frazer, the US aid services will stand accused for contribution to Genocide. When it comes to Ogaden, the only interlocutor for the UN, America and Europe is the ONLF. ONLF Call For International Humanitarian Corridor In Ogaden http://onlf.org/onlfpress15sep2008.htmlPress Release15 September 2008
The scope and severity of the famine in Ogaden, coupled with soaring food prices mainly as a result of the economic blockade of Ogaden by the Ethiopian regime, has brought the Ogaden to the brink of a man made humanitarian catastrophe. The Ethiopian regime continues to severely restrict humanitarian assistance to our people while using what little food aid that gets through as a political weapon aimed at collectively our villagers and nomads. The United Nations has been largely unsuccessful at distributing humanitarian assistance to the Ogaden specifically due to the blatant and frequent obstacles presented by the Ethiopian regime. Independent aid agencies have been largely banned from the region with no indications they will be allowed to return despite the worsening humanitarian situation.
It is due to this reality that the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) on behalf of the people of Ogaden calls upon the international community to realize an immediate emergency international humanitarian corridor in Ogaden. Such a corridor is not without precedent and is both appropriate and implementable in the Ogaden. A humanitarian corridor can be demilitarized if Ethiopian troops do not escort or interfere with humanitarian aid convoys. As we have stated on numerous occasions, the ONLF is prepared to do all that is necessary to facilitate the distribution of food aid in Ogaden including working with the international community to realize a functioning emergency international humanitarian corridor.
Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) US comes to Ethiopia´s rescue http://en.afrik.com/article14522.htmlDrought-affected communities in Ethiopia will receive an additional food aid package of nearly US$ 60 million from the US through the UN World Food Programme, it was officially announced Thursday. The US Agency for International Development (USAID) said the relief contribution provided by America consisted of nearly 72,000 metric tonnes (MT) of food, including approximately 33,000 MT of sorghum, 33,000 MT of wheat, 5,000 MT of corn soya blend (CSB), and 1,000 MT of vegetable oil.
UN and non-governmental relief agencies operating in Ethiopia reported that increasing food insecurity and malnutrition in some areas of the country were posing a serious challenge to humanitarian response activities. For instance, reports said the overall humanitarian situation in the south-eastern Somali Region had worsened due to progressive shortages of water and food. The US is the largest donor of emergency food assistance to Ethiopia.Since October 2007, the American people have provided more than 804,000 MT of food assistance to the disaster-prone East African country.
Given through USAID´s Office of Food for Peace, the assistance was valued at nearly US$ 627 million and it included more than US$ 324 million in emergency food commodities and more than US$ 302 million in contributions to the Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP), a multi-donor effort led by the Ethiopian government to a ddress chronic food insecurity.Meanwhile, Assistant Administrator of the USAID´s Bureau of Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance, Michael Hess, and Jeff Borns, Director of the Office of Food for Peace, are currently visiting Ethiopia to meet with government officials and representatives from humanitarian organisations and analyse the effectiveness of the American humanitarian assistance in affected areas.
During their 15-19 September 2008 tour, Hess and Borns have travelled to Somali and Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples regions of Ethiopia to observe USA ID-funded programmes and meet with regional officials and USAID partners.According to the Somali Regional Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Bureau, food and water shortages have reached critical levels in many areas of the region leading to increased rural-urban migration.Affected areas include Korahe, Warder, Degehabur, Gode, Fik and parts of Liben and Afder zones. Also, WFP reported that the region remained of particular concern due to erratic dispatches of food assistance.
Constant increase in food prices has compounded food insecurity while livestock mortality is escalating due to extreme shortages of water and pasture and drought-related diseases. With concern growing about the likely exacerbation of drought conditions as the July-September rains in Jijiga and Shinile zones are nearing a failure, regional officials said priority responses should be immediate interventions in food, in come and livelihood protection support, animal feeds and water supply.According to WFP, increasing needs of food assistance in Ethiopia remained the leading factor challenging timely and adequate response activities. The agency currently faces a resource shortfall totaling 145,690 MT of relief food valued at US$ 118.9 million.

Prologue to Assimilation Policy
Prologue to Assimilation Policy?
By : THE MAAN-HADAL TEAM
September 23, 2008
The latest session of the 'parliament' in the nominal Somali regional state enacted statues that are of high interest. First, men and women are to share their assets equitably in the event of a divorce and no more reference is to be made to the rules in the Sharia court. Second, the 'irksome' five-star in the corner of the regional flag is soon to be a thing of the past. Third, Friday is to be a working day.
Somali regional flag |
When announcing this 'landmark' laws, there was no disguise of the contempt for the feelings and beliefs of the people in the region. The vulgarities were so vile, the insensitivity so audacious! In fact, a laurel wreath was proffered onto the head of the man who announced it- a man merely used as an amplifier by the real rulers of the region who originated the laws. What temerity!
The Somali Region |
The people of Somaligalbeed will need its most living God to get the better of this massive attempt on its heritage and identity, if this is what we, indeed, think it is.
We suspect this is a prologue to a new policy of assimilation the regime in Addis Ababa is trying to implement in the region, along with the already pursued divide-and-rule policies. The explanations given for the introduction of these laws are an indication of the phased strategies hatched up to delink the blood, history, and destiny ties the people of the region had and have with their kins in Somalia. This hitherto concealed agenda is beginning to obtrude blatantly; betraying the lies of the regime about valuing the customs and identities of nations and nationalities of the inhabitants of Ethiopia.
The regime thinks the removal of the star and the shade of blue background from the not-so-scared flag will hopefully mean, all of a sudden, the people of the region will be insensitive to the atrocities committed in Somalia. It hopes it will end the desire to be a Somali and will usher the dawn of a new transformation. We think, beyond publicity, it won't go far. Indeed, the stooges in Jigjiga all looked drunk with well contrived misapprehension when their dishonest leadership announced that this measure is a step forward in the birth of a new sense of 'Ethiopianism' in the heart of the people of the region. Rigging facts is not something new with the regime and their implants. But one may still ask if this gratuitous euphoria have any chance of being a reality?
The people of the region are burdened by a severe famine to care about the imposition of unenforceable laws by a despairing regime |
The Somali people are one in culture, religion and are intricately tied together by blood, bonded in marriages and share common livelihood sources. A mere elimination of a star will never stop the relation, but on the contrary, might act as a catalyst to solidify the affiliation and bolster self-awareness. It may wake up those who were asleep, oblivious to the danger lurking. Therefore, the euphoria is short-sighted. It will never impact on the social, political, cultural, psychological and economic attachment and interdependence among the Somali nation in the horn of Africa.
The people of the region are burdened by a severe famine to care about the imposition of unenforceable laws by a despairing regime. A regime that is busy expelling humanitarians and media people so that the cries of hungry children and the grief of abused mothers is not revealed to the world. Add this to the well founded reports by credible international human right organisations on the extra-judicial killings, arbitrary detentions and burning of villages committed by the Ethiopian army; and one would wonder if massive starvation is the right tool to arm-twist the Somaligalbeed people to sing in praise and long for the tri-coloured flag of Ethiopia.
A woman sits with her family in Denan, Somali Region, Ethiopia amid signs of a major drought. Denan was the epicentre of the region's last drought in 2000. Somali Region, Ethiopia |
That Friday is going to be a working day is part of the phased attempt at the assimilation of the conquered natives. Perhaps, the decision on the rights of women and men is the most far-reaching. Apart from the questionable motives and the challenges around the operationalisation of the law, whether good or bad, the issue is, will it be accepted by the suspicious Somali's who see it as a dictation by the Christian highlanders? Even if one argues this particular decree was made for the welfare of the women and with good intentions, the method of delivery has sullied its value and reduced the chances for practical implementation. Not to mention the parochial and controversial nature of the law.
After the killings, arrests and mass starvation polices is this the latest weapon to subdue the 'unruly' Somali's? The designers of these laws must have dug deep and read all the lessons from French colonialism, for there is no better way of vanquishing a rebel than to force him/her to reject his/her self!
This new invention is particularly dangerous as it is targeted against the soul and sacred beliefs of the people. Whatever physical pain and loss is inflicted upon the Somaligalbeed people by the colonizers will heal with time. But, the shame and loss that follows the absconding of our values and core beliefs will alter who we are and will have an eternal sore in our soul and that of our progeny.
Therefore, the people of Somaligalbeed and their Somali brothers elsewhere must denounce and oppose this denial of religious rights and the blatant attack on their identity.
From our side, maybe, it is time we remind the strategists of this wicked policy, the living words of the eminent poet Jaamac Kadiye:
The sound I understand is a Somali
The genetics of me is a Somali
The way God created me is a Somali
He who I greet is a Somali
He who I share food with is a Somali
He who I befriend is a Somali
The perch I sleep on is a Somali
The land I walk on is a Somali
You find a Somali If you cut my skin
I object to the dissection and dalliance – (of those who wish to divide us)
Never will we be kept apart
I am a Somali, I am indivisible!!!

Woyanne demoded Somali region Cadres Presidents for eighth time
He reminded the Ethiopian Somali the old adage that has been narrated during the integration of Somali people into the Ethiopian territory. Nearly a century ago Lord Curzon anticipated the plight of Somali pastoralists in the Somali region in his poignant statement about frontiers being ‘the razor’s edge on which hang suspended the modern issues of war or peace, of death or life to nations. Somali has been better off during Haile Sillaise; however, Woyane minority who do not know how to handle the question of nations and nationalities have exacerbated. They are killing left and right the innocent people.
Leadership crisis is looming due to the interference of Meles and his gang in Somali Region . In the last eighteen years, Woynae minority is changing so-called presidents in Somali Region as their “Culotte” short pant of guerrilla time.
This week , to usher and precipitate the demotion of President Abdillahi Hassan and signaled to the upcoming so-called President to execute minority Tigayna’s killing machine , Woyane cadres have mounted an explosion in the capital of Somali Region and it claimed the lives of four innocent Somali people. President Abdillahi Hassan was the worst one when it came to jail Somalis, kill them and fire them without due process.
This theatrical event of changing guard in the Somali Region was a good lesson to all Somalis that woyane can not trust. As Somali saying goes, “caws jilal waa lama huraan.” at the end of the day, everybody has to go back to his own people. Woyane will go back to his desert, and Somali people will stay in its own land.
